Teaching Exchange, Royal University of Bhutan and Lund University, September 2022

Kuzuzangpo (Greetings) to Sweden from Bhutan! This is our first oversea travel since the Covid-19 pandemic, but our second visit to Lund University as a Teacher exchange, supported by the ongoing Linnaeus-Palme partnership Project.

On September 6, after arriving in Copenhagen, we took a train to Lund C, where we were greeted by our project partner Dr. Martin Andersson and helped in boarding a train to Höör, where our host resides. We were a little hesitant at first when Henrik offered to let us live with his family, but it ended up being a home away from home with two new relatives from Bhutan.

We had co-teaching with Henrik delivering lectures on photovoltaic physics, how sunlight is converted into electricity, and the lab simulations of solar photovoltaics and solar thermal systems to second-year master’s students studying Energy Efficient and Environmental Building Design. It’s interesting and fascinating to interact with the majority of the class, which is made up of foreign students from Canada, Europe and Asia.

I appreciate the frankness with which students communicate with their tutors, which is not always the case in Bhutan.

The teaching also included a study tour with students to Augustenborg Greenroofs and the concert house Malmo Live, which was enjoyable and educational. Malmo Live is a stunning tower, and we hope to see a live concert there someday.
Living with Henrik’s family is a home away from home, dining and exchanging cross-cultural values and food menus are unforgettable moments. We prepared Emadatsi shared with apple pie made from his garden and the variety of herring from the ICA market.
One weekend, Henrik took us to a football game between the boys in Höör IS and Stehag AIF. It was a pleasure to interact with the parents who came to cheer on the kids. Everyone is very open and speaks good English.

We look forward to host some of staff and students from Lund to Bhutan.

It was really memorable trip, hope to visit again in near future, our heartfelt regards to Henrik’s Family.
