The contacts made during the 2015 -2018 CIMCEB project (Curricula Development of Interdisciplinary Master Courses in Energy Efficient Building Design in Nepal and Bhutan) resulted in, me Matthijs van Jaarsveld from Lund University in Sweden, to go the Bhutan to write my master thesis in collaboration with the Royal University of Bhutan – College of Science and Technology in Rinchending, Phuentsholing.
The thesis aimed to improve the insulation value of rammed earth constructions and, with it, improve the thermal comfort in Bhutanese rammed earth dwellings as seen on the illustration. The study focussed on rammed earth constructions in the cold climate in the Paro and Thimphu region
